Holiday Cruise Pricing & Booking Early
The calendar matters more than usual.
Get Holiday Group Cruise QuotesHoliday fares behave differently from the rest of the year. Understanding the pattern helps your group decide when to book — and when not to wait.
The General Pattern
| Period | Typical demand | What it usually means for a group |
|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Eve sailings | Very high | Often the highest fares of the season; book a year or more ahead |
| Christmas week | Very high | Family cabins and suites go early |
| Thanksgiving week | High | Popular with U.S. families; book well ahead |
| Early to mid-December | Often softer | Can be a better-value festive sailing, with decorations already up |
| Easter and spring break weeks | High | School calendars drive demand; family cabins first |
These are broad patterns, not promises. Individual sailings can buck the trend, and promotions come and go.
Why Booking Early Matters More for Groups
A couple can often find one cabin on a busy sailing. A group needs several, ideally close together and in a mix of categories. Holiday sailings with plenty of space a year out can have only scattered cabins left a few months before. Booking early gives your group the best choice of cabins, prices and locations, plus time for every household to budget.
Many lines allow early bookings to be adjusted if a lower fare appears before final payment, depending on the fare type. Your advisor can watch for that.

Ways to Keep Holiday Costs Down
- Sail from a homeport the group can drive to, avoiding holiday airfares.
- Consider the week before or after the holiday itself.
- Look at older ships or shorter itineraries, which often cost less than the newest ships.
- Watch the year’s big promotion season; our sister site Wave Season gathers current offers.
- Mix cabin categories so each household chooses what it can afford.
Do Not Count on Last-Minute Holiday Deals
Unsold cabins sometimes get cheaper close to sailing, but holiday weeks are the dates least likely to have them, and a group needs several cabins at once. Waiting is a gamble that rarely pays for a holiday group.
Deposits and Payments for Holiday Groups
Holiday sailings often have their own payment terms, and some lines set earlier final payment dates for festive or peak sailings than for ordinary weeks. Ask your advisor for the deposit amount, the final payment date and the cancellation schedule before anyone commits, and share them in writing with every household. Setting the group’s own internal deadline a few weeks before the line’s date gives time to chase late payers without risking anyone’s cabin.
